Frequently Asked Questions

Important Questions Our Clients Ask
Are Hair Transplant Results Permanent?

One of the most common questions people considering hair transplantation ask is whether the transplanted hair is permanent. (This excludes cases where there is a hair disorder or the use of specific medications such as chemotherapy.)

The grafts used in hair transplantation are taken from the donor area, which is genetically resistant to hair loss. The donor area is the area least affected by hair loss, covering the back of the neck and above the ears. The hair follicles in this area are resistant to hair loss due to their genetic structure.

Therefore, when performed with the correct technique and under appropriate conditions, transplanted hair is permanent and will continue to grow with you for life, just like your natural hair.

How Long Does the Hair Transplant Procedure Take?

The duration of the hair transplant procedure may vary depending on the number of team members performing the operation and the number of grafts to be transplanted. In general, hair transplant procedures take between 6 and 9 hours to complete.

Will I be conscious during the hair transplant procedure?

Hair transplant procedures at our clinic are performed under local anesthesia. This ensures you experience a comfortable process without feeling any pain throughout the operation. If you wish, you can listen to music, watch a movie, or use your phone during the procedure.

My Hair Is Falling Out Thickly. Can I Get a Hair Transplant?

Hair transplantation performed while hair loss is still active may result in new bald patches forming in areas that were not yet affected at the time of transplantation but eventually experience hair loss over time. Therefore, proper management of the process prior to transplantation is crucial for individuals experiencing ongoing hair loss.

During the active shedding phase, a healthier approach would be to control hair loss with supportive treatments such as PRP and mesotherapy instead of hair transplantation. These treatments reduce the rate of shedding and strengthen the hair. Once the shedding rate reaches normal levels, the situation can be reassessed and hair transplantation can be planned.

Which Areas of the Body Can Hair Follicles Be Taken From for Hair Transplantation?

The grafts required for hair transplantation are primarily taken from the donor area, which is the back of the head between the two ears. Hair follicles in this area are genetically resistant to hair loss, making it the first choice for hair transplantation. However, in some cases, the number of grafts in the back of the head may not be sufficient for the planned transplantation.

In such cases, the beard area comes into play as an alternative donor area. Beard roots taken from approximately two fingers below the jawbone have a durable and long-lasting structure, similar to neck roots. Over time, they adapt to the anatomical structure of the area where they are transplanted, taking on the form of hair and providing a natural appearance.

Although it is technically possible to harvest hair follicles from the back, chest, and rarely the leg areas, the follicles in these areas are generally thin and weak, making them insufficient in terms of permanence. Since problems with retention can occur in a short period of time, these areas are not preferred in hair transplant procedures.

Will Hair Grow Back in the Donor Area Where the Roots Were Taken?

No, hair follicles taken from the donor area will not grow back. This is because grafts are taken along with the root tissue, so hair will not grow back from the same spot. However, when the extraction process is performed in a regular and homogeneous manner, the gaps formed in the donor area are not noticeable from the outside, and a natural appearance is maintained.

When Can I Start Exercising Again?

The first 20 days after hair transplantation are the most sensitive period in terms of the grafted roots taking hold. During this period, it is recommended to avoid sports and strenuous physical activities. From the 20th day onwards, you can gradually start exercising with light cardio exercises. It is recommended to return to intense and full-performance sports activities after the first month.

What is the Success Rate of Hair Transplantation?

In hair transplant centers with specialized and experienced teams, the success rate of hair follicle grafting can reach up to 95–98%. This high success rate is directly related to the correct technique and professional application.

The permanence and success of the results obtained after hair transplantation are also linked to the care the individual takes in the post-operative care process. However, individual factors such as the individual’s physiological structure, genetic characteristics, and the condition of the hair follicles can also play a decisive role in the results.

Will I Feel Pain During the Hair Transplant Procedure?

Thanks to advancing technology and modern techniques, the pain experienced during hair transplant procedures has been minimized to a minimum level today. The discomfort experienced during the procedure is negligible for most patients.

During the procedure, a slight pulling sensation may be felt on the scalp. However, since pain perception varies from person to person, some patients describe this sensation as very mild pain, while the vast majority report feeling almost no discomfort during the procedure.

What is the most suitable age range for hair transplantation?

When evaluated in light of scientific data, there is no definitive age limit for hair transplantation. For example, in children who have lost part of their hair due to burns, accidents, or similar reasons, hair transplantation can be performed as a medical necessity rather than for aesthetic reasons.

One of the most critical stages of the hair transplant process is proper planning. When conducting a personalized hair transplant assessment, the first fundamental question that must be answered is:

“Is hair loss still ongoing?”

If hair transplantation is performed while active hair loss is still ongoing, new bald spots may develop in the coming years in areas that were hairy at the time but have since lost hair. This situation may necessitate further hair transplantation and, consequently, additional costs. Therefore, the decision to undergo hair transplantation must be made based on expert evaluation and long-term planning.

Do Hair Transplant Results Look Natural?

For individuals undergoing hair transplantation, the natural hairline prior to hair loss is used as a reference, taking into account the forehead and facial muscle structure before the operation. This stage is the most important first step in the process to achieve an aesthetic and natural result. Since each individual’s hair growth direction and angles are different, personalized planning is of great importance.

When opening the micro-channels where the hair follicles will be placed, it is necessary to move in accordance with the natural direction and angles of the hair. The knowledge and experience of the specialist performing this procedure directly affects the success of the result. Thanks to a correctly drawn hairline, channels opened at appropriate angles, and transplantation performed with balanced density, a natural, aesthetic, and satisfying hair appearance is achieved.

Will There Be Scars After Hair Transplantation?

When the hair transplant procedure is performed by expert and experienced teams, no noticeable scarring occurs. Since the hair follicles taken from the donor area are removed along with the root tissue, hair does not grow back from the same spot. Therefore, micro-gaps naturally form in the area where the hair was taken.

However, as long as these extractions are performed in a homogeneous and balanced manner, no irritating or noticeable scarring will appear in the donor area, provided that the person does not shave their hair to a number 0 and keeps it at a normal length. In daily life, this area is not noticeable from the outside, and a natural appearance is maintained.

When will my hair start growing back?

After hair transplantation, the transplanted hair usually enters the shedding phase within the first 15 days, and this process is completed within approximately 1 month. In some individuals, some of the transplanted hair may continue to grow without shedding; in very rare cases, the growth phase may begin directly without any shedding. This situation is related to the individual’s skin structure and healing process.

During the first two months following the shedding phase, the hairy area largely retains its pre-procedure appearance. The transplanted hair usually begins to grow back slowly starting around the third month. Between 6 and 8 months, a noticeable fullness develops, and during this period, an average hair density of 60–70% is achieved.

While it takes approximately 1 year for the hair to grow out completely and for the final appearance to settle, it can take up to 1.5 years for the crown area in particular to be fully completed.

How long after hair transplantation can I get a haircut?

The donor area at the back of the head can be shaved after 2 months, and the transplant area after 6 months. During these shaves, the machine should not come into contact with the scalp. Therefore, scissor cutting should be preferred.

How Many Days After Hair Transplantation Can You Resume Your Sex Life?

You can resume sexual activity one week after hair transplantation.
